Prof. Mirjana Bjeloš, MD, PhD, is a Full Professor and ophthalmologist specialized in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at University Hospital “Sveti Duh” in Zagreb. She heads the Centre for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and the Centre for Ocular Electrophysiology, and serves as Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Child Eye Care. Her main clinical and research interests include pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, ophthalmic genetics, inherited retinal diseases, and ocular electrophysiology. She played a leading role in the establishment of Croatia’s national amblyopia screening programme and the National Registry for Early Amblyopia Detection, and is actively involved in gene therapy for inherited retinal diseases. She is a key contributor to the longitudinal research project “Myopia in the School Children of the City of Zagreb”, with the aim of developing evidence-based preventive strategies and predictive models for children at increased risk.
